Which Cloth Diapers Will Fit Your Baby?

Thirsties Duo Diaper, Snaps

The single row of snaps on the Thirsties Duo Diaper fits thin babies best.

Check it out, 29Diapers readers! The Intertubes’ first cloth diaper fit guide that tells you which diapers to buy according to your baby’s body type! This chart is based on my experience and on the general consensus of mothers regarding the fit of certain brands. I need your help to fill out this chart, so please leave me a comment telling me how your diapers fit your chunky monkeys and skinny minnies, and I’ll add them to the list. Thanks for helping me build a valuable resource for the newly diapering mamas out there!

If Your Baby Has Equally Pudgy Thighs and Waist: You may like diapers with moderately sized leg holes and a wide waistband.

If Your Baby Has Fat Thighs and a Skinny Waist: Diapers recommended for fat thighs and a skinny waist have waistbands and leg holes that can be adjusted independently, such as diapers with an aplix-fastened waistband and leg holes with gussets that accommodate large thighs, a Fuzzibunz pocket that uses separately adjusted elastic at the waist and legs to give you a custom fit, or double rows of snaps at the waist you can fasten at an angle for a slimmer fit at the waist.

If Your Baby Has Skinny Legs: I don’t have much experience with diapering a thin baby (except when baby girl was first born), so you tell me if I need to add another column for thin thighs and a pudgy waist. For now I have just put diapers in this category that have smaller leg holes or a waistband that bunches if used with pudgy thighs, and diapers with only one row of snaps at the waist, which fit thinner babies better.

My daughter is petite (3 months old and 11.5 lbs) and I have found that OS dipes gap and leak at the thighs. Aplix is better than snaps. I use prefolds and thirsties covers with her and that works great, or perfect fit AIOs/fitteds.

Cool chart. I know you can’t list every diaper, but I had to bring up Soft Bums. They are an all-in two…. with snap in inserts. You can adjust the leg elastic to fit any size baby. They are my favorite diaper. :)

Thanks, this is nice info. I have a very skinny baby, with a bit of a pot belly, so your other column would be good, but then you would have to go find some to test it out on… I am still looking for a good fit, have not tried many though. But I am going to share this with my friend who is starting to CD!

My little is long and trim. I like the fuzzibuz perfect size because you can adjust the waist and the legs. I also like Thirsties because of the leg gussets

I had a toddler with a skinny waist, legs, and a tiny butt and Swaddlebees worked really well for him. That was our night diaper for him when he was potty training. It was a pocket diaper. Can’t comment too much on the performance of them, because he was very good about staying dry at night. I hope we will get a chance to use them again.

Actually, I’m hoping to list nearly every diaper, mrogerslac–at least, as many as I can until the chart gets too big to be useful. :) Thanks for your input!

What baby body type are you diapering with Soft Bums, Melanie? I’ll add Soft Bums to the chart accordingly. Thanks for the input!

    Hi Emerald!
That’s interesting about Thirsties fitting your thin baby and aplix being better than snaps. Now we have one vote either direction on those two issues. Would anyone else care to weigh in? Emerald, have you tried two rows of snaps or one, and if both have you noticed one style working better for your thin baby? Thanks for helping me build the chart! :)

My son has skinny legs and a skinny waist. He’s never had a problem with BG 3.0 (pockets) I love them! :)

The diaper that best fits my long and lean 11 month old is Rumparooz. It is a smaller fitting diaper and fits very trim. Katydid OS pockets also fit him well. Both of these diapers seem to run on the small side though. We do have diapers that are more generously cut, like the Thirsties Duo Diaper that also fit him well. I prefer snaps on diapers, but glad that the Duo Diaper wasn’t available in snaps. If I had gotten snaps on this particular diaper, I don’t think it would have worked for us. The aplix lets me get more of a custom fit.

We also have BG 3.0 AIO’s and Nubunz. Both fit him well. The Nubunz is the trimmest diaper that we have. It fits him very very well and for the price, it’s an AWESOME diaper. If the Nubunz had the inner leg gussets like the RaR, it would be my favorite. (but that has nothing to do with fit)

I hope that all made sense and I didn’t just confuse you, lol.

Thanks for the input! I’m adding these brands to the chart now.
