Not so long ago, I tested Rockin’ Green’s Funk Rock for this blog, and I wasn’t sure what to say. It didn’t seem to do much for my diapers, but I didn’t really have an ammonia problem, so how could I tell if it was working or not? Well, I just had the chance to test it, big time.
Not on my diapers, but on my bath mat. I have a cat that has taken it upon herself to express displeasure whenever I leave town. This summer we took 3 trips, a record for us, so she also set a record, peeing on all my rugs to communicate in no uncertain terms that this flightiness of mine wouldn’t do. After I removed all the rugs she had access to, we seemed to have the problem under control. But then she discovered the bath mat in the master bathroom after our most recent trip up north last weekend.
Pee. On. The. Bath. Mat. It was the grossest smell ever, and it took me a whole day to figure out where it was coming from! When I did, I tossed that sucker right into a bucket of water with half a packet of Funk Rock and left it to soak overnight.
The result? Well, here’s why we have no pictures. Soaking cat pee out of a bath mat isn’t picture material. But when I moved the bath mat from the bucket to the washer for a hot wash, the whole thing smelled not of cat pee but of tuna fish.
Gross, right? But that ammonia sure was busted. When the bath mat went in, it smelled incredibly strongly of cat pee. So, if you have neurotic pets like we do, or diapers with an eye-watering ammonia problem, you should check out Funk Rock. I don’t know of any other product that does what Funk Rock can do.
I received product several months ago to review from Rockin’ Green but was not compensated for either review. 29 Diapers never accepts payment for reviews so you can be sure the opinions you see on this site are independent and uninfluenced by compensation.

I tried this on my diapers and it helped but did not completely get rid of ammonia in our morning diapers so their must be something else wrong with my washing routine if it works on cat pee!
That is very cool! I was waiting for a Funk Rock success story! I had bought a bag and it didn’t do much on our diapers either. But I had tried using it to soak a blanket and rug that my dogs had peed on while we were out for a couple days, and unfortunately the Funk Rock did nothing for those either. I was wondering if it really worked!
Will have to try this – we have a cat that does the same thing. We have learned (well, hubby has almost learned) never to leave a bath mat down. Its like she has a carpet tracking device that goes off as soon as we slip up and leave it. =)
