Cookie Beard
We have been gearing up for Fall already at our house, probably since I just bought a chest freezer for storing our co-op food and because the weather is already turning. Because I’m so Type A (and because a full roster of my new mega-plan for the 29 Diapers’ 29 Days of Christmas could result in as many as 435 prizes to coordinate!!!) I made a list yesterday of all the things I can do to make my holidays stress-free this year. One idea we can pursue with a chest freezer is baking cookies ahead of time, while it’s still relaxed and fun.
So, I present to you Cookie Beard, the choco-mess my daughter paints on her face when I give her a spoon to lick. We had a blast yesterday, and she helped me lick every spoon. We made chocolate revel bars (exhibit A on her chin), toffee, and sugar cookie dough. It was so much fun! Today we may finish off the sugar cookies and make some Snow Caps, which are chewy peppermint chocolate chip meringues. They’re to die for, but the recipe is finicky and depends on the humidity and the stars aligning correctly, so I’ve never managed to make a successful batch. Wish us luck! We’ve even pre-baked our Thanksgiving yams to be dressed up in November so we can focus on your giveaway fun this holiday season. That and editing my novel one last time. Goodness, how do I get myself into these things?
