OXO and Klean Kanteen Review
The leading eco-friendly mom and baby store in my town of Ann Arbor, The Little Seedling, is working with a local charity called Food Gatherers to support people in need this Christmas. The Little Seedling is offering two packages of eco-friendly feeding gear, one from Klean Kanteen and one from OXO, and when you purchase them part of the proceeds go to support Food Gatherers’ work to feed the community. For this review, I sampled just a few items from the OXO package, which contains a whole range of toddler feeding gear such as snack packs, a cup that converts from sippy to trainer to straw bottle, a plate with a removable lip to prevent spills, and more. The Klean Kanteen pack just contains the company’s new vacuum insulated stainless steel water bottle, which comes in original steel, purple, or other colors, plus a travel mug top so you can drink your coffee on the go without spilling it in the car.
Baby girl loves her new training cup from OXO, which is a basic cup plus a lid that has a see-through insert with perforations around the edges. It allows her to throw back a drink without spilling it on her face. At first I thought this would be the perfect solution to car spills, but she became so comfortable with the cup she started putting it down in the car and letting it spill out on the seat. Oops. This cup isn’t leak-proof unless you have the sippy attachment: the trainer lid is just intended to slow a spill so toddlers can learn how to use a regular cup. It’s a pretty neat idea for kids just learning to use a big kid cup.
She also loved her plate with the training lip on it. It’s just a plastic toddler plate with a detachable ring around the edge that hangs over the inside edges of the plate to prevent unnecessary messes. It works quite well. No more sliding food off the plate by accident, for instance. And baby girl can carry her plate from one room to another without spilling a snack. You can snap the lip off when your toddler is done needing it, or just to clean it in the dishwasher, though it does seem to get thoroughly clean when washed in one piece.
Finally, mama is loving her new insulated Klean Kanteen travel mug. It claims to keep hot drinks hot for 6 hours and cold drinks cold for much longer than that. I noticed right away that when I just kept water in it in the car, it would be teeth freezingly cold the next morning when I came back to it after a snowy night. I love how this mug comes with the standard water bottle top as well as the travel mug top. They both screw on nicely, and you can decide how you use it. You certainly will want to use the travel mug top when drinking something hot from this wide-mouthed cup in the car! The Klean Kanteen mug also comes in 12-, 16-, and 20-ounce sizes, so you can pick the size that’s right for you.
