California Baby's sunscreen/bug repellent: a baby product worth its $18 pricetag!
Baby toiletries–shampoo, baby wash, diaper cream, sunscreen, and so on–can really add up, especially if you’re safety conscious and try to buy organic and non-toxic products. But I have good news for you. You can save a TON of money by making certain toiletries yourself, which will free up a little more cash to splurge on the special items you really love. For me those special items are California Baby’s combination non-toxic sunscreen and natural citronella bug repellent, and Burt’s Bees diaper ointment. The sunscreen/bug repellent is $18 (yikes!) but it’s easy to apply, and I never have to mess with multiple products. The diaper ointment sticks to her heiny and prevents rash like nothing else, while never getting stuck on my diapers. That’s worth $8 a tube to me. Well, and I guess I’m also in love with Earth Mama Angel Baby’s $10 Bottom Balm, which works wonders to heal little scrapes and rashes.
BUT, I have never paid a dime for baby shampoo, baby wash, cloth wipe solution, or even hand soap for the family since baby girl was born, and that’s because one $10 bottle of Dr. Bronner’s Baby Mild castile soap my mother-in-law bought me as part of a shower present has been helping me cook up all these products on my own all year. It only takes seconds, which makes it as convenient as cloth diapers: I never have to run to the store for more wipe solution or baby shampoo. And when I travel I just take along baby’s cloth wipe solution spray bottle that’s always in the diaper bag, and we use it for wipe solution and shampoo on the go by just spraying the mixture on her wet hair and rubbing to lather up.
