Now you're really behind the scenes: the 29 Diapers commode.

I told you I was busy cleaning the house this week before heading out of town again, and here is one DIY all-natural cleaning recipe that I found worked pretty well. (A big thank you again to reader Julie Wills for sending me a whole batch of recipes to try!) This mixture worked great to clean my toilet but didn’t remove hard-water stains, so I will still be on the hunt for a solution to that ubiquitous problem.

Natural Toilet Cleaner Recipe

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar

It’s super simple. Just shake about a half cup of baking soda onto the sides of the toilet and into the water, and let sit for several minutes. Then pour about a cup of white vinegar onto the baking soda and let fizz. Scrub the toilet with a toilet brush as usual, but then let it sit for another half hour or so to really clean the toilet.

This recipe really brightened my toilet, but as I said before it didn’t touch the little hard water stains that keep forming a ring around the bowl, so I will keep experimenting to see if I can fix this problem. My experiment with using vinegar on my shower curtain also had no effect on the hard water stains. This recipe works moderately well at cleaning soap scum out of a tub, but again it’s not as effective as I would like it to be, so I’ll keep working to find the perfect green recipe for you. If I have to give up on the homemade recipes I’ll review an eco-friendly product for you.

It’s so simple I hesitate to call it a recipe, but there it is. Simple is good, right?
