Foot & Hand Cream Recipe
A few months back I got tired of trying to find the perfect all-natural products to replace my favorite foot cream and lip gloss and so on, and decided I would make them myself. After all, I was discovering that my favorite natural products had so few ingredients that I should be able to make the highest-quality products I was buying for half of what they cost retail. Worth a shot, anyway.
Well, Laura put a little of this and a little of that into a bowl, and she mixed and she mixed. Sorry, no, that was Amelia Bedelia. What I did was try a few different recipes online and then combine them to make my favorite formula for super-rich foot and body cream. Unlike most store-bought creams, this has no water or glycerin in it. In fact it’s so dense and rich that you may want to store it in giant scroll-up tubes instead of a jar.
Laura’s All-Natural Foot & Body Cream Recipe:
- ½ cup shea butter melted in a double boiler for at least 20 min @175 degrees (to prevent graininess in the final product: trust me, it’s worth the extra time to get this smooth)
Then add:
- ½ cup cocoa butter
- ¼ cup mango butter
- 1 T beeswax
Remove from heat and add:
- 2 drops grapefruit seed extract (a natural preservative)
- ¼ t vanilla extract
Pour into two bowls, then add 15 drops of peppermint essential oil to one and 15 drops tangerine essential oil to the other, to create white chocolate peppermint and chocolate orange foot treats. Mmm ☺Whip with an electric mixer and whisk attachment and then pour into 8 oz. glass jars for storage.
Note: If you use some other solid unscented butter to replace cocoa butter, or if you use cocoa butter that has no scent, these become vanilla mint and orange creamsicle, also yum. ☺
Rub this luxurious cream into your feet and hands several times a day, and especially at night, to keep your skin happy all winter. This formula is also kind to itchy post-partum skin, but it’s a little thick to rub on softer areas of your body, so if you want to try this product to pamper your belly, either warm it up in your hands first or try softening this recipe with a little with extra shea butter. If you want a lotion bar instead, up the ratio of mango butter and cocoa butter, which are quite firm at room temperature.
Please let me know how you like this recipe! And when you look for ingredients online, please make sure you’re buying quality stuff. Lots of sites claim to sell all-natural ingredients but they will happily sell you chemical dyes and parabens alongside their organic mango butter. The best sites explain how to use their products and only sell the best ingredients.
